Library
A library is an organized collection of information resources. A library is often a common area to facilitate group study and collaboration. The Library of RabbitPedia contains more in-depth information on topics included in the major sections. We would appreciate discussion or addition to any area of the library where you can improve or complement the current work.

Anatomy

Anatomy is the scientific study of the structure of living things including their systems, organs, and tissues. It includes the appearance and position of the various parts, the materials from which they are composed, their locations and their relationships with other parts.

Breeds

A breed is a specific group of domestic animals or plants having homogeneous appearance, homogeneous behavior, and other characteristics that distinguish it from other animals or plants of the same species and that were arrived at through selective breeding.

Conditioning

The overall physical condition of a rabbit in relation to health, cleanliness, fur and grooming.

Cages

Cage design...sizes... wire types.

Equipment

Feeding and watering equipment can be built at home, but it's hardly worth the time because most equipment is relatively inexpensive to purchase and is usually of better quality. If it is cared for properly, the feeding and watering equipment that you purchase will last for several years.

Exhibiting

Preparing a rabbit for show really starts with the breeding and selection. You need to select an animal with the proper type and coat. It then continues for many months before the show with a good feeding regime which provides the animal with the nutrition it needs to have a firm body, and well finished coat. It also requires regular grooming and handling to get your animal used to being posed properly (front of the rear feet directly under the hip joint, front feed directly below the eye) and staying in its pose once set up.

Health

Rabbits are subject to a wide variety of diseases that cause death or decrease production levels. Most diseases can be avoided through good breeding and management practices. Daily observation of the animals will allow you to note the first signs of disease.

Housing

Housing requirements for rabbits depend on climate. Minimal housing (an A-frame roof without sides) can be used in moderate climates, while a climate-controlled rabbitry may be necessary in hot or cold climates. Good ventilation at all times is imperative.

Judging

Licensed judges are trained to evaluate rabbits according to the ideal guidelines published by the ARBA. Rabbit shows are not based on the rabbits’ performance or personality, but rather on their physical conformance to the written standard.

Nutrition

Rabbits are small herbivores with specialized feeding and digestive strategies.
Overview
Essential Oils

Palpation

Pregnancy checking rabbits.

Processing

Rabbit meat is an all white meat that is low in fat, high in protein, relatively low in cholesterol, low in sodium, highly palatable and easily digested. Rabbit has a higher percentage of protein and a lower percentage of fat than chicken, turkey, beef, or pork. Not only is it a rich source of unsaturated omega fatty acids but it a rich lean source of protein that can be substituted for red meat and poultry in most recipes.

Selection

A good knowledge of rabbit husbandry, before the project, is very helpful here. Selection of project animals should be limited to those breeds that conform to ideal meat producing qualities.

Sexing

How to determine the sex of rabbits.

Showmanship

Rabbit showmanship involves thoroughly examining an animal as a judge would do in competition. Each step that an exhibitor forgets to complete is counted against their overall score. Appearance of the exhibitor and their knowledge are two other areas important in this competition.

Tattooing

A legible tattoo in the domestic rabbit's left ear is very important for permanent identification of the animal.

Watering

Watering systems for rabbits... Very important for successful rabbit breeding.
